About

I'm Ashley Steel. In my spare time I sometimes design and build websites. Check out my portfolio for things I've done in the past. I attend Hamilton Boys' High School and currently I'm 7th form, making me 17, 18 in August.

I got interested in web design when I was about 13/14. A friend of mine was doing it, and I thought it looked pretty cool so got him to teach me a few things, but soon enough I was learning myself and churning out some rough stuff, but progress nonetheless. My main teaching resource for both CSS and HTML is W3 Schools. Marvellous tutorials and reference material for all major web languages, be them client or server side.

I use Photoshop to create design mockups and the images that I use in the webpages, and Textpad as my HTML/CSS editor. There was a time when my sites were table based, but that's long since ceased. I wouldn't be able to make a table layout if I tried, but mainly because the disgust would kill me ;). Nowadays, its Strict xHTML and CSS all the way. With semantic xHTML markup (not that this website is a good example of that).

My freelance work has suffered lately as I work for a company called Enlighten Designs, a web design company. I'm really loving it there, good people, great fun, and work that's just my cup of tea (not that I like tea).

Anyway, enough of me ranting. If you'd like to know more or get me to do some work for you, email me. My email is with Google (Gmail) and my alias is webash.
